![]() ![]() Mel Gibson's film, The Passion of The Christ presented an Aramaic script for most of the dialogue of Jesus and the Apostles and other Jews, which added realism, historic accuracy and power to the film. The Peshitta has a long tradition among Syrian and Assyrian (Iraqi and Lebanese) Christians as being the original text of the New Testament written by the Apostles and Evangelists of Jesus in the first century AD. Aramaic was the language of Jesus and his countrymen of Israel, as well as that of neighboring Syria, Persia, Asia, and all Jewish colonies throughout the known world. ![]() This is the Gospel of John translated from the Aramaic text of the 1905 Syriac Peshitta New Testament, published by the British and United Bible Societies.
